Masonic Charities
The United Grand Lodge of England, our governing body, has four major charitable institutions, the Grand Charity, the New Masonic Samaritan Fund, the Royal Masonic Benevolent Instruction and the Royal Masonic Trust for Girls and Boys.
The current Provincial Grand Master of Staffordshire, Thomas Lloyd, has agreed to hold a Festival in 2013 for the Grand Charity and the appeal will be launched at the annual Provincial Grand Lodge meeting in May 2007.
The Grand Charity is one of the UK’s leading grant makers and every year gives £500,000 to hospices across England and Wales. In 2004, when the Tsunami struck South Asia, the Grand Charity responded within hours with a cheque for £50,000 to enable the British Red Cross to send immediate aid.
In 2006, Provincial Grand Master presented a cheque for £49,000 to Deafness Research UK on behalf of the Grand Charity to fund a research programme at North Staffordshire’s Keele University into age related hearing loss.
Lifelites started out as a pilot project in 1999 with a £7M fund from Grand Lodge the idea of providing education and entertainments’ technology for children in hospices. Now a charity in our own right, our work has expanded to meet the growing demand from the mushrooming network of children’s hospices (currently 40) in England and Wales - expanding to Scotland.
